Taboo Events Volunteer roles and tasks 

 We will need many volunteers to put on a interactive dungeon at Taboo.  

Set Up and Tear Down crews

The Event doesn’t happen without work before and after.  Most of the tasks aren’t even heavy.  It’s a good role for someone who doesn’t want to be public-facing.  

• Unload trailer (before) or load trailer (after)
• Set up equipment (before) or pack up equipment (after)
• Put out/put away tables and chairs
• Wipe tables and equipment 
• Put out/ Put away signage
• Set up and hang up lights/ Pack away
• Set up computer equipment for the event
• Set up/ Pack up the registration desk
• Set up/ Pack down grid walls
• Label and tag equipment for the toy station
• Put out water and stock safety table 
• Pack away all other items into bins as required (after) 

Front of House

You will run the registration desk, handle waiver signing, check ID, and sell merch.  You will also watch the door and herd distracted guests. An easily accessible role to anyone who can follow instructions and operate a tablet. You should also be able to handle a crowd of people without getting frustrated. 

• Check ID against waivers 
• Provide wrist bands
• Track waivers when required

• Greet all who come to the event

• Monitor front door space
• Pack down the front desk at the end of the night 
• Issues management 
• Communicate with K-E-A-N representatives and owners on issues

Hosts 

Be both an ambassador and an interpreter to promote what the dungeon is about.  With respect to those in attendance monitor the dungeon for safety and adherence and enforcement of the rules. A good role for someone outgoing and observant and has no issues approaching others. 

• Hosts provide tours if required

• Hosts mingle with guests
• Answer questions
• Look for those without wristbands and get them to get a wristband if they want to try things
• Watch scenes and enforce rules in dungeon space
• Give play advice to newbies

• Hosts may be able to interact with those who have signed a waiver as well in the same way the Interactive Education Station representatives have
• Clean stations in between each guest interaction or guest use
• Pick up trash
• Issues management 

• Communicate issues to the K-E-A-N representatives and owners 

Interactive Education Station representatives

Be an educator by demonstrating or teaching something. Give guests their first taste of kink and show them what we do for real.  Expect to answer questions and dispel people’s misconceptions. A good role for someone passionate about sharing our lifestyle. Experience in kink is an asset for this role.  A firm understanding of a learning dungeon is key to this role.  

• Check for wristbands – no band – no interaction with equipment  

• Greet all who come to the event
• Answer questions and provide educational information 
• All Education stations are to operate at a public entry-level (nothing advanced)
• All impact education is to be light, all interactions are short and education-based 
• All electro-education and wax education interactions are short and education-based 
• For all Rope education, the following guidelines must be followed:
• No rope in any participant’s mouth or genitals
• No rope that binds legs together
• No rope that binds arms together, unless the participant is seated the entire time
• All rope must be removed from the guest before they leave the dungeon unless they have their own rope 
• Clean stations in between each guest interaction or guest use
• Communicate issues to the K-E-A-N representatives and owners 

Performer/ Demonstration 

This year we will have some performances and demonstrations.  Ideally, they will be 20 – 40 mins in length, with a varied time for interactions to happen directly after the performances and demonstrations.  Please see the Interactive Education Station representatives for more information.  The performance or demonstration should be related to what was shown, however, we do not expect it to be as comprehensive or immersive as performance or demonstrations can get.  

Toy Keeper

A librarian keeping an armory. You will lend out toys to our guests. The Toy Keeper also educates people on the basics before turning them loose. We need someone observant and familiar with the basics of common implements.

• Track and manage toys loaned out to volunteers and those in attendance 
• Explain toys to guests at the event
• Explain the event space 
• Introduce guests to Hosts to provide tours if required
• Clean and return toys to space for guest use
• Communicate issues to the K-E-A-N representatives and owners 

Greeter/photo helper/ Roamer 

A combination of advertiser, ambassador, and event host.  We need a friendly, high-energy person to attract attention to the dungeon space and what we’re doing. Greet all who come to the event

• Explain the event space 
• Take photos with guests’ phones, we will have a photo space set up outside the dungeon

• Introduce guests to Hosts to provide tours if required
• Take guests to the front desk to have a waiver signed if they want to interact 

• Answer questions
• Mingle with guests
• Walk around taboo and promote the dungeon
• Pick up trash
• Communicate issues to the K-E-A-N representatives and owners

• Event management 
• Can approve or deny a scene
• Can shut down an education station if required
• Remove a guest if required
• First aid escalation if required
